Class FAQ

In each level of our Pole Fitness Program, we have created 3 different series: A, B, and C. These series are NOT progressive - you can start with A, B, or C. Within each series, there are 4 progressive classes (Class 1-4). You want to stick with the 4 progressive classes within your choice of series, because by Class 4 you are putting the moves you have learned in Classes 1-3 into a sequence.
We recommend that you begin with an Intro to Pole 101. Intro to Pole will give an idea of what you will learn in the progressive 4-class Pole 101 course. If you feel confident about starting Pole 101 right away, you may start in class 1 of one of the Pole 101 series. There are 3 series in level 101: 101A, 101B, 101C. You will learn a different sequence of moves in each series. You may start with any series and you may do more than 1 series at a time, but must complete a series in the correct order of classes. You must be comfortable with at least one of the 101 series before moving on to level 202.
Please call us at 604.738.7653, or e-mail us to reserve a spot. You can also click here to register online! Payment must be taken prior to class to complete your reservation. Please note, all class fees and memberships are non-refundable, but you may reschedule your spot in class if 12 hours notice is given before the class.

Everyone may feel a little nervous at first–new studio, new people, new environment! After your first class, you will fall in love with our bright, funny, and supportive community! Our Instructors and staff are friendly and professional, and, although some classes are more sensual in nature (such as Lap Dance and Exotic Dance) there is absolutely no nudity, and you will do only what feels comfortable for you in a non-competitive and safe environment.

Every studio has a different way of teaching and dividing their levels. While you may have gained experience at other studios, we do not recommend jumping into a higher level pole class without first taking a lower level class in order to determine your strength and skill.

We start teaching the foundations of inverting and pole tricks in Pole 303A, B, and C. If you feel you may be ready for this sooner, please speak with our Head Instructors for an assessment. Otherwise, the majority of Members progress steadily through 101, 202, 303 +.
Pole dancing is a body weight resistance exercise. Every time you perform a move, you get a great stretch, keeping your muscles long and lean as opposed to short and bulky, which lifting weights can often do. Pole Dancing offers a complete body workout combining strength training, fat burning and stretching. Why struggle to find the willpower to go to the gym? Get excited about working out! You are so focused on learning the moves that you forget you are even exercising.
If you are under 19, you must get your parent/guardian to come into the studio with you to sign a waiver and we will scan their ID. If they are unable to come into the studio, then please email us a scanned copy of their ID and signed waiver with their email and phone number so we can contact them to verify the information. Please contact us and we can forward the waiver and questionnaire via e-mail!
Yes. Every pole fitness instructor that currently teaches at a Tantra Fitness is a professionally certified fitness instructor.
Please wear clothing that is suitable for the class you will be attending:

Pole 101-202: Wear longer pants that cover the back of the knee, along with a t-shirt or tank top until you get used to the pole. Recommended footwear includes indoor rubber-soled shoes and bare feet. We DO NOT recommend wearing high heels of any kind.

Pole 303 – Pole 606: These classes require skin to stick to the pole so please wear shorts, tank-tops and/or sport’s bras. Recommended footwear includes indoor rubber-soled shoes and bare feet. We DO NOT recommend wearing high heels of any kind.

Dance Fitness Classes: Proper indoor athletic footwear is recommended for all Dance Fitness classes with the exception of Exotic Dance Level 1 and 2, Exotic Dance Floor, Lap Dance, Erotica and Burlesque,  which require high heels OR bare feet.

Please refrain from applying oil or oil-based moisturizers within 1.5 hours of a pole lesson as this will prevent your skin from properly adhering to the pole. We do however recommend applying a water-based moisturizer in the morning of the day of your pole class, as completely dry skin also has difficulty adhering to the pole.
Yes!  Practice makes perfect!  Once you have completed all classes of that Pole level (101, 202, 303, 404, 505, or 606), you can either repeat the whole level again, or repeat certain classes if there is a particular move you want to work on.  Your best bet is to consult your Instructor to come up with a practice plan.  It is very common that participants repeat whole levels or repeat certain classes.  Many also enroll in several different levels at the same time.  For safety reasons, always be sure you are not attending a class that is too advanced.  Also, take advantage of Open Studio Practice time!
For anyone at any fitness level, we always recommend you consult your physician before starting a new fitness program. Tantra Fitness prides itself on being THE fitness alternative for the every-day woman.  We have classes that are high intensity, moderate intensity, and lower intensity. Classes such as Ballfit, Ballet Bootcamp, or Kangoo Jumps are high intensity classes.  Cardio Striptease and Bellyfit are examples of moderate intensity classes.  Sexy Flexy and Aerial Yoga are some of our lower intensity classes.  Once you have been cleared to participate by your physician, contact us by e-mail, phone, or in person for recommendations on which classes to start with.  When you attend your first classes, always take some time before the start of class to communicate any concerns you have with the Instructor.  The Tantra Fitness community is one of the most supportive, fun, and welcoming bunch of women you’ll ever meet in Vancouver!  Come in and experience the warm fuzzies:).
Pole Classes are all classes that use the pole as the main exercise apparatus, and are usually progressive.  All participants must reserve a spot in all Pole Classes. The Pole classes include Intro to Pole, Pole 101A/B/C, Pole 202A/B/C, Pole 303A/B/C, Pole 404A/B/C, Pole 505A/B/C, Intermediate/Advanced Pole Lab, Exotic Dance Foundations/L1/L2, Polefit, Spin Pole, Flirty Fit L1/L2. Aerial courses and classes must also be reserved. Aerial courses/classes include Intro to Aerial Arts, Hoop L1/L2, Silks L1/L2, Aerial Yoga Foundations, Aerial Yoga, Aerial Fit. Dance Fitness Classes are all other classes and are appropriate for all levels. You do not need to reserve a spot in Dance Fitness Classes, but it is recommended as classes do fill-up.
